I am constantly made aware of the fact that we're programmed
either genetically or through experience to have certain reactions
to virtually everything that we see. No matter how basic or
abstract the visual form we observe, an emotion, or judgment,
or visceral reaction occurs. Sometimes subtle, sometimes overwhelming.
My work has roots in abstract expressionism in that it flows
in part from my own emotions, and subconscious. But there's
also a deliberate element. The images aren't representational
in a literal sense but I do intentionally employ certain colors,
forms, and techniques that are meant to evoke a particular reaction.
Vertical Symmetry

This compositional choice alludes to the profound and at the
same time speaks of balance and stability. It encourages the
viewer to trust the piece and to desire to know its secrets.
Repetition, Variation, and Self-Similarity

The repetition and slight variations in my work invite and sometimes
demand closer inspection. The human mind and eye are naturally
drawn to compare variations and similarities. Once the piece
has gained the viewer's attention, these elements speak of imperfection,
reality, and harmony by virtue of difference.
Light

Light represents God and the truth. I use light and dark together
to acknowledge the reality of life. One beckons and the other
tempts but neither are fully revealed or understood.
Windows and Doors

The rectangles in my compositions often resemble windows and
doors. These portals offer a glimpse and invitation to search
for something greater. They are a metaphor for a gateway to
a deeper knowledge of the truth.
Intertwined Forms

Our World has never before been so interdependent, intermingled,
and interconnected. Largely due to the pervasiveness of technology,
it's a theme that I believe touches us all and is a small glimpse
into the future of mankind.
