    Statement

The images I create allude to the complex relationship that exists between man, environment and spirit—a translucent intersection of our shared surroundings with individual emotions, fears, and beliefs. I use the computer to create them because my own interaction with it inherently represents that relationship I am trying to communicate through my work.

I am striving with my art to do something relevant to our immediate world—to create something never quite seen before but not unfamiliar. To blur lines and build bridges between the past and the developing aesthetic of technology and art.

Elements

My work has roots in abstract expressionism in that it flows improvisationally from my emotions, subconscious and inherent aesthetic values. But there's also a more deliberate element. The images aren't representational in a literal sense but I do intentionally employ certain colors, forms, and techniques that are meant to evoke a particular reaction.

Repetition, Variation, and Self-Similarity
The repetition and slight variations in my work invite and sometimes demand closer inspection. The human mind and eye are naturally drawn to compare variations and similarities. Once the piece has gained the viewer's attention, these elements speak of imperfection, reality, and harmony by virtue of difference.

Windows, Doors, and Borders
The rectangles in my compositions often resemble frames of sorts. These portals offer a glimpse and invitation to search for something greater. They are a metaphor for a gateway to deeper understanding.

Intertwined Forms
Our World has never before been so interconnected and interdependent. These forms are the dynamic convergent results of natural and man-made forces smashing into one another and merging to become life's chaotic yet repetitious texture.

Symmetry
This compositional choice alludes to the profound and speaks of balance and stability. It encourages the viewer to trust and respect the piece.

Texture
The coarse and fine textures I incorporate in the images represent the tiny range of universal scale we perceive daily. Not the enormity of the cosmos nor the minuteness of particles but rather the range from a mountain to a grain of sand.

Muted Colors
The computer is capable of displaying a very wide range of colors but I don't often use pure colors in my images because the concepts I'm trying to convey are not pure. They are contaminated, imperfect, "grey".
